Ecological Solutions provided the stream ecological survey and effects assessment for the consenting of a new coal mine on the West Coast of New Zealand. The survey was carried out in steep, challenging terrain and in typical West Coast style wet weather gear was needed. We determined the ecological values of streams draining the mining area and assessed the effects of the mine development. The consent application was successful and we continue to work with Francis Mining on the long-term environmental monitoring programme.
Key services provided:
- Baseline survey of receiving environment – water quality sampling, in-stream and riparian habitat assessment, benthic macroinvertebrate sampling and fish survey
Assessment of receiving environment values and sensitivity - Assessment of effects of the mine development and ongoing operation
- Long-term environmental monitoring
