The impact of barriers to New Zealand’s largely diadromous native fish fauna is becoming increasingly recognised. Considerable effort has gone into providing passage at large barriers such as hydro dams but now also efforts are being made to restore connectivity for native fish at the numerous smaller barriers such as culverts and weirs. Ecological Solutions has been working with New Plymouth District Council to monitor the success of an extensive project involving the installation of fish passes within the cities stream network.
